Wollongong City Council

Deferred Election

Deferred elections occur when the Council is not required to conduct an election at the time of the local government general election. This typically occurs when the council is in administration.

The Local Government (Shellharbour and Wollongong Elections) Act 2011 came into force on 10 May 2011, and provided for Wollongong City Council and Shellharbour City Council to come out of administration and hold elections on 3 September 2011. The results of these elections can be viewed here. That legislation also provided that successful candidates would hold office until 2016, meaning no election is required in 2012.
