Explanation of Declaration Vote Types


Absent Vote - A vote made by an elector who is outside their own electoral district.

Declared Institution Vote - A vote cast at an approved hospital, nursing home or convalescent home which is visited by election officials for the purpose of taking votes from residents who are unable to attend a polling place.

Enrolment New Vote - A vote cast by eligible persons not on the electoral roll for any district, who produced a NSW driver licence or NSW RTA photo card as identification, and enrolled at the time of casting their vote.

iVote - A vote cast by eligible persons who have registered and cast a vote via the internet or phone. These votes are printed out from a central location at 6:00 pm on election night. The LA iVotes for each district will then be despatched to the appropriate returning officer for counting and included in the tally for postal votesrecording in EMA. The LC iVotes will be despatched to the LC Count Centre for counting and recording.

Provisional Vote - Name Already Marked As Voted (NAMAV) - A vote issued to an elector who attends to vote but finds his or her name has already been marked on the Authorised Roll as having voted. Name Not On Roll Vote (NNOR) - A vote by an elector who claims to be enrolled but is not on the Authorised Roll and who has claimed a Name Not On Roll vote.

Postal Vote - A vote by electors who are unable to attend a polling place during voting hours on election day and who applied to vote by post.

Pre-poll Ordinary Vote - A vote issued to a pre-poll voter voting within their enrolled electoral district ie no declaration envelope required. Electors who won't be able to vote on election day for certain specified reasons can vote before election day at the office of a returning officer or a pre-poll voting centre.

Silent Vote - A vote cast by an elector whose address does not appear on the authorised roll for reasons of personal safety.
